London International Shipping Week through Shipping Innovation, Maritime UK and HMG is a signatory to the Maritime UK Diversity Pledges and Charter. London International Shipping Week is committed to become a Diversity in Maritime Charter organisation and to make progress on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (“EDI”).

London International Shipping Week will work with Maritime UK to agree an ‘action plan’, setting out individual targets for EDI for LISW25 and beyond. The policy will include inter alia membership of the SG etc and selection of speaker panels of events directly organised by London International Shipping Week.

 

London International Shipping Week is:

 

  • committed to leading on EDI among SG etc, speaker panels and other bodies involved in the organisation of LISW25 and beyond. The aim is for London International Shipping Week to be truly representative of all sections of society, and for everybody involved with London International Shipping Week to feel respected and able to give their best.
  • London International Shipping Week is committed against unlawful discrimination of delegates attending LISW25 and beyond.

 

 

London International Shipping Week will not discriminate because of:

  • marriage or civil partnership
  • pregnancy and maternity
  • race (including colour, nationality, and ethnic or national origin)
  • religion or belief
  • sex or gender
  • sexual orientation


London International Shipping Week commits to:

 

  1. Encourage EDI in the organising of LISW23 and beyond as they are good practice and make business sense.
  2. Create an environment free of bullying, harassment, victimisation, and unlawful discrimination, promoting dignity and respect for all, and where individual differences and the contributions of all are recognised and valued.     
    3. Provide training and mentoring for members of the SG etc about their rights and responsibilities under the EDI policy. Responsibilities include members of the SG etc conducting themselves to help the London International Shipping Week provide equal opportunities, and prevent bullying, harassment, victimisation and unlawful discrimination.
  3. Take seriously complaints of bullying, harassment, victimisation and unlawful discrimination during the London International Shipping Week’s activities. Such complaints will be dealt with under London International Shipping Week’s grievance procedures – see below.
  4. Make decisions concerning membership of the SG etc, speaker panels and similar positions based on merit.
  5. Monitor the membership of the SG etc plus speaker panels of events directly organised by London International Shipping Week with a view to encouraging EDI, and in meeting the aims and commitments set out in the EDI policy. Monitoring will also include assessing how the EDI policy, and any supporting action plan, are working in practice, reviewing them as an integral part of the London International Shipping Week wash up report, and considering and taking action to address any issues.
  6. Encouraging sponsors and other London International Shipping Week stakeholders to adopt a similar policy as adopted by London International Shipping Week in relation to events organised by them during LISW25 and beyond and supporting them in being able to do so.
  7. Promote initiatives including the MUK Speak Panel and Events charter which support increasing diversity in maritime events.
