Chris Shirling-Rooke

Maritime UK is the umbrella body for the £116 Billion maritime sector, bringing together the shipping, ports, services, engineering and leisure marine industries. Maritime UK’s purpose is to champion and enable a thriving maritime sector. Maritime UK has responsibility for the coordination and delivery of industry recommendations within Maritime 2050.

Chris became Chief Executive of Maritime UK in Summer 2023. Chris has led the establishment of Maritime UK’s Regional Council for cluster organisations, so that other clusters can also be heard, fostering collaboration and driving growth for the United Kingdom. He continues his work to empower Coastal Communities across the UK and champion the maritime sector. Previously Chris was Chief Executive of Mersey Maritime, the sector champion for the maritime industry in the North West of England. Chris was awarded an MBE for his services to Maritime and was given a professorship by Liverpool John Moores University.
